Welcome to My Website
To all of you who worked tirelessly on our campaign, thank you so much. Although disappointed with the results, we remained positive, stuck to our issues of supporting local businesses, jobs, protecting the environment, and making sure that our hard earned tax dollars are spent wisely. I truly enjoyed listening to the concerns of thousands of people and believe that we must come together to solve Tacoma’s biggest challenges. I could not have done this without you, my dear friends. Stay involved, ask your electeds tough questions and demand results. They are your voice. Good luck to Anders and all members of our Tacoma City Council. It was such a pleasure to be a part of this political process. Again, thank you to so many friends, organizations, labor and business owners. You’re the best! Karen (+:

My deepest and sincere thanks to everyone for all of your hard work and support. We now begin the second phase of our journey to victory in November. Our message was heard by our neighbors and friends in District 1: Common sense, experience and leadership is what is needed on the Tacoma City Council and that is what I will bring. You have my commitment that I will continue to listen and work hard for you. Again, thank you so much.
Sincerely,
Karen

Letter Declaring Candidacy
I am thrilled to announce my candidacy for Tacoma City Council, Position 1.
My husband Bill and I have raised our family in the west end of Tacoma and been your neighbors for over 37 years. During this time, I have taught for the Tacoma Public Schools and been very active in civic affairs. When a problem is recognized in our community, I enjoy hearing the perspectives of others, and then helping to forge
a common solution.
I am running for the City Council because I want to work to create a brighter future for Tacoma. On the Council, I will focus on collaboration and practical solutions. I will help create an environment that listens to our constituents, a government that creates local jobs and makes Tacoma even more beautiful. Together we can improve public safety, transportation, and education.
I hope to earn your vote!
Warm Regards,
Karen
Quote from a former student
“I remember when you (Mrs. Smitherman) worked for Ramann Hall as a teacher, you use to teach the girls how to bakes cookies snickerdoodles, now they are my favorites!!! Being incarcerated as a teenager wasn’t the best place to be, but you gave us hope =-) Thank you”
